ALGIERS- President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune announced Thursday evening, in his speech to the nation, the dissolution of the People’s National Assembly (Parliament’s Lower House) and the organization of early legislative elections.
“I have decided to dissolve the People’s National Assembly and its current elements. We will immediately organize elections where there will be no place for dirty or clean money, elections that will open the doors to young people,” so that this group “will be given all its political weight” that enables it to access the elected institutions, said President Tebboune.
“The State will work to help these young people, notably in their electoral campaigns, of which we will support a large part,” he added.
In this way, added President Tebboune, “we will make a change by giving a new life to the bodies of the State and Parliament that will be the people’s voice.”
President Tebboune reaffirmed that “the Parliament will be elected and the monitoring will be ensured by the independent authority and in which neither the governors nor the heads of People’s communal assemblies will interfere (…) and not even the president of the Republic.”
